Suicide is not a solution

Spread the love

It has become very common nowadays and we see every day on television and in the newspapers that a certain person has committed suicide in a certain place  leaving a question behind that why he/she was forced to take such a big step and destroy their own life forever?

Let’s assume that everyone is in some kind of trouble at the moment, but that doesn’t mean we should get angry at anything and take the path of suicide. If we look at the reasons, the most prominent one is “impatience”. People nowadays lack tolerance & patience, they got hurt by other people or their own circumstances and couldn’t wait and work on certain things. The statistics show that there are more teens who think about suicide over little things. Nowadays, parents’ love has changed the dimension as they try their best to bring extra care & comforts to their children so the children haven’t learnt ‘patience’, they try to fulfill their every request making sure that their children never miss anything. However, due to excessive pampering and love, these children get upset and make various requests to their parents, but when the parents are not ready or able to accept their demands, these children threaten that if this does not happen, then I will finish it myself, and in this way, by unknowingly taking such a step, they make their parents suffer for ages.

Another major reason for suicide related to financial problems. Sometimes people commit suicide because they see no solution to starvation, while economic problems can be solved by changing social attitudes. In the past, when a distressed person was seen sitting somewhere, people of status used to approach him and help him, but in the present era, many professional beggars have resorted to miserliness even to philanthropists, so they just stopped the cycle of money moving from rich to poor rather it’s rich to beggar now. Secondly, social responsibilities are also not the part of modern day society, it’s the “who cares” attitude that keeps people away from the deserving people

We should all adopt a collective attitude of helping each other, remembering the past to solve economic problems, which requires constant struggle, hard work and long wait, because these attitudes were settled after a long time. It may take just as long to move in a positive direction.

Now if we think about possible treatments, psychiatric illnesses are complex and difficult to treat but obviously precaution is preferable to treatment. According to psychologists, to be safe from mental illness, make the home environment pleasant. Frustration is the root of all problems. If there is a problem, it is important to develop positive thinking before solving it.

To avoid mental anguish, people with depression should talk to their good friends or close relatives and then consult a psychologist from the beginning and find a solution to their problems in detail. Use time for positive activities instead of wasting time.

Now what’s the position of Islam regarding suicides?

Despair is disbelief. According to Islam, suicide is committed only by those who are disappointed in God’s mercy. In the Holy Qur’an, Allah says:

“O My servants who have wronged their souls, do not despair of Allah’s mercy; surely Allah forgives all sins. Surely He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”

On the other hand, according to Islam, a person’s body and life is not his personal property, but it’s given by Allah, it belongs to Allah. Life is a great blessing which provides the basis for other blessings & we are not allowed to harm ourselves purposely or intentionally.

The religion of Islam, while declaring suicide as haraam, said that no human being is allowed to destroy his own life because it is Allah Almighty who gives life and death. The murder of one man was called the murder of all humanity.

Allah says in Surah Baqarah, verse 195: “And do not put yourselves to destruction with your own hands, and be the benefactors. Verily, Allah loves those who do good.”

Sadly suicide trend is increasing in Pakistan too. According to a Gallup poll, 7% of Pakistanis know directly about those who have committed suicide or died or failed. The population of the country at present is more than 221.468 million of which 7% is 15.5 million people. According to a report, 1 person commits suicide every 40 seconds worldwide. Every year, 800,000 people take their own lives, while according to the World Health Organization, suicide is the second leading cause of death among people between the ages of 15 and 29.

We all need to understand that depression is not a normal thing, everyone should play their role to console people around who seem to be in a mental stress and try to help others to come out of suicidal thoughts because suicide is not a solution to any problem, never ever!
